Yugo launched a new Asian fusion restaurant in Belfast in 2016. For this space, they wanted to create an Asian fast dining experience that pushed beyond the typical aesthetic of oriental eateries. Placing emphasis on fresh ingredients and true Asian cuisine, they wanted to give diners an authentic modern Asian dining experience.

We created a space that balanced clean lines and clutter free spaces with soft playful elements and natural beauty

Taking inspiration from traditional Japanese design aesthetics and landscapes, we created a space that balanced clean lines and clutter free spaces with soft playful elements and  natural beauty. The open timber structures and Shoji style framing bring definition and a sense of calm order to the dining room.

We used a mixed palette of timbers, bringing in darker woods and elements of raw steel, aged brick and concrete to ground the concept in its industrial location of Belfast. A ceiling filled with spherical bamboo lampshades gives a subtle yet playful nod to the colorful paper lanterns typically found in Asian restaurants. The walls are decorated with hanging succulents and cacti, bringing the beauty of nature indoors.

Finally, the open plan kitchen is presented in a theatre like manner, bringing an atmosphere reminiscent of Asian markets and street food to diners.
